Should I buy a double or single hammock?
Double hammocks are far more spacious and roomier than their single counterparts. They’re typically about 5 to 6 feet wide, whereas single hammocks are normally just 4 to 5 feet wide.
And double hammocks can certainly take a lot more weight than their single counterparts.
On the flip side, however, double hammocks are heavier than their single counterparts, due to being much thicker to accommodate larger weights. This makes them a less attractive option for backpacking.

How much weight can a 2 person hammock hold?
The usual maximum capacity of a 2-person hammock lies between 400 to 500 pounds of weight. But you can also get more lightweight models that can take just 350 pounds.
In contrast, a single hammock normally has a maximum weight capacity falling between 300 to 400 pounds. With ultralight versions usually able to take a maximum of about 250 pounds in weight.
Long story short, if you’re looking for a spacious hammock just for yourself, you should be perfectly comfortable in a 1-person hammock if you weigh less than 300 pounds. Anything over that and you’ll probably feel more secure in a double or 2-person hammock instead.
Is Hammock good for back?
Sleeping in a hammock is great when you’ve set it up correctly. The hammock encloses you, rocks you, and takes all that pressure off your spine.
In fact, if you struggle with any pre-existing back pain, sleeping in a hammock could be just what you need. The hammock holds you in such a way that all your body weight sinks to your buttocks and there are no pressure points on your spine whatsoever.
